ABREEZA (ABBI) THOMAS is a junior at Southern Miss majoring in art and minoring in dance. She is a native of Jackson, Mississippi who has always loved all things artsy; writing, drawing, listening to music, and dancing are all hobbies that have led her to make the decisions she has here at Southern. The piece she submitted was done as a request for a friend who is majoring in music here. He wanted to do something for his clarinet professor and, knowing her work with crayons, asked Abbi to create a piece for him. Abbi had several ideas but wasn't too fond of any of them. While browsing Facebook one day, she found the picture she used in a friend's profile. After getting his permission to use the image, the piece came to life, sparking a series of pieces that feature different musicians. Abbi didn't really intend for the piece to have a meaning. But, looking at it now, it makes her think of a bluesy clarinet piece you might hear wandering the French Quarter in New Orleans.
